Mutton Biriyani


Today I made Mutton Biriyani , it turned out awesome. So I thought to share it with u all. I could not click a good one as  I finished it late and hubby came to lunch from office. So I quickly snap some shots. And to my surprise no leftovers, all finished at once. Hubby simply loved it.


  • Basmathi Rice     500 g
  • Water       3 Cups
  • Big Onion  1  [ thinly sliced]
  • Big Tomato 1
  • Ginger Garlic Paste  1 tbsp
  • Red Chili Powder    2 tsp
  • Coriander Powder    2 tsp
  • Lemon Juice  2 tsp
  • Salt   to taste
  • Milk   1 cup
  • Garam Masala 1 tsp
  • Mint Leaves    1/4 cup
  • Cinnamon  a small piece
  • Cardamom  3 pods
  • Oil    1 tbsp
  • Ghee  2 tbsp

  To Marinate 

  • Mutton     500 g
  • Chili powder  1/2 tsp
  • Garam Masala  1 tsp
  • Ginger Garlic Paste   1 tsp
  • Turmeric Powder    1/2 tsp
  • Curd    4 tbsp
  • Coriander Powder 1/2 tsp
  • salt to taste



Mix all the Ingredients listed under marinate till the mutton is evenly coated. Set aside for 20 mints. Meanwhile heat oil + ghee in pressure cooker and add little onion and saute and add the ginger garlic paste, cardamom and cinnamon. saute till slightly browned.

Then add remaining onions,tomatoes and cook for 30 sec then add mint leaves,saute for 30 sec, add coriander,chilli powders and saute for 1 mint.

Then add marinated mutton and cover with a lid and let cook for 5 mints. after that add 1 cup of water and pressure cook for 5 – 6 whistle in low flame.

meanwhile wash the rice and soak it for 30 mints. Boil water in a pan, when its boiling add the soaked rice and cook for 1 mint and strain immediately with a strainer. keep it aside.

Once pressure releases open pressure cooker and add garam masala and saute till the water is fully absorbed. then add the rice, milk, 2 cup water and lime juice, cook for 10 mints in medium flame. I did not use the whistle. keep the cooker on a tawa to prevent biriyani from burning. keep the lid closed for 10 mints. then serve, garnish with whatever u like.
