From the day I saw a picture of a zebra cake for the first time, I was eager to try it. Finally I made it last week. but I could not share it with you all, as it was a very busy week. so finally here I am. Late wishes for my readers those who celebrated Eid. The Cake turned out well, Even though it looks hard to make, it actually pretty easy. But little bit time consuming and need little patience . Plus point is we do not need any frosting or any decoration as the cake itself is really pretty.
Most of the zebra cake recipes I found on internet had more sugar and oil. Finally I found a recipe on you tube which uses less sugar. you can find watch it here. Original recipe called for butter but I ran out of it and instead I used Oil. It came out well and yummy. My son enjoyed well. he was saying it is very yummy and asking for more. so I think this is a winner recipe.
- Egg 4
- Oil 1 cup
- All purpose flour 3 cup
- Milk 1 cup
- Sugar 1 cup
- Salt 1/4 tsp
- Baking powder 2 tsp
- Vanilla essence 1 1/2 tsp
For chocolate batter
- Coco powder 3 tbs
- Sugar 2 tbs
- Milk 1/4 cup
Shift the flour, salt and baking powder and keep it a side.
In a separate bowl mix the coco powder, sugar and milk.
In a large bowl beat the oil and sugar until sugar well dissolved. now add the eggs one by one and beat well. [ I used my whisk] add in vanilla.
Now gradually add the milk and flour to the egg mixture and mix well until all are well combined.
Now pour the half of the batter to the coco powder mixture and give a quick mix.
Take the prepared 9″ pan, take 2 tbs of vanilla batter and place it on the middle of the pan. then take 2 tbs of chocolate batter and place it over the vanilla batter. again add 2 tbs of vanilla batter over the chocolate batter. repeat the process until 2/3 of pan filled or all the batter has been used. I had some leftover batter and I made a bundt cake. I will explain it in another post.
Preheat the oven at 180ºC/350ºF and bake for 40-50 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center came out clean.
Remove from oven and let it cool for 10 minutes and remove from the pan. Now you can serve your gorgeous cake.
Notes
If you do not have the patience, you can scoop more than 2 tbs at a time, then you will have less swirls.
This looks so cool!
