Hi everyone! ☺

After a very long time. Hope all are doing well. Today I am going to share a famous dinner recipe from Sri Lankan cuisine.we called it ‘thakkadi’, a funny name isn’t it. it was resting in my drafts for more than 2 months now. Also I have more new recipes I tried and hope to share with you all soon in sha Allah. Mom used to make this by steaming the dumplings first and cook in beef stew. but my in-laws making without steaming and it is easy and less time consuming. so special thanks to my brother-in-law’s wife for the recipe.

Ingredients

For the dumplings

  • Rice Flour           2 cups
  • Scraped Fresh Coconut  1 cup
  • Finely Chopped Onions  1 cup
  • Chopped Curry Leaves   1/8 cup
  • Water as needed
  • Salt Per Taste

For The Stew

  • Beef with Bones    750g
  • Sliced Onion      1
  • Tomato        1
  • Ginger Garlic Paste    1 tsp
  • Oil           1 tbs
  • Fenugreek Seed   1/8 tsp
  • cardamom     3-4 pods
  • Cinnamon      small stick
  • Turmeric Powder    1 tsp
  • Chilli Powder       1 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin Powder    2 tsp
  • Coriander Powder   2 tsp
  • Garam masala      1 tsp  (optional)
  • Curry Leaves and Pandan leaves         Few
  • Salt and pepper   To Taste
  • Water   as needed

Method

In  a pressure cooker heat the oil in medium flame. add some onions, saute for 10 secs and add in cinnamon, cardamom, pandan and curry leaves. saute for 10 more secs and add the ginger garlic paste. saute until onion turns golden brown in colour.

Now add the remaining onions, tomato, green chili, Fenugreek seed and beef. Add in all the spices and 1/4 cup of water  mix well and let it cook for 5 minute covering with a lid. Now add little more water and cook for 4-5 whistles on medium flame.

Meanwhile in a large bowl add all the dry ingredients listed under the dumplings and mix well. Now gradually  add water  and make a non sticky soft dough. If you like you can make use beef stew instead of water.

Now make small lime sized balls and give a gentle press in the middle with your thumb.

Once done add the dumplings to the beef curry. If stew is not enough to cover the dumplings add some water and check the seasoning. Cook on medium flame until done. If you want can add some Coconut milk in the end, cook for one more minute and remove from heat. I usually do not add milk.

Now you can serve the dish hot.
